Belarus MFA: SCO needs a mechanism of rapid joint response to emerging challenges

MINSK, 12 September (BelTA) - In today's challenging times it is vital to build a mechanism of rapid joint response of the SCO countries to emerging global challenges, Belarusian First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergei Lukashevich said at the 23rd meeting of the Ministers of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Member States responsible for Foreign Economic and Trade Activities , BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

According to Sergei Lukashevich, the international interest in the SCO as a promising international organization is growing. According to him, Belarus is ready to contribute to the work of the organization in all areas of cooperation, be it policies, humanitarian affairs and economy, as well as to join its work as an equal and like-minded partner, to regularly discuss and find consensus solutions to a wide range of sectoral and regional issues.

“Today when the economic situation in the world is becoming increasingly unpredictable, geopolitical contradictions are gaining momentum and misunderstanding in the international arena is growing, it is of crucial importance to build a mechanism for rapid joint response of the SCO countries to emerging global challenges, such as illegal unilateral sanctions and artificially created financial barriers,” the first deputy minister of foreign affairs emphasized. In the interests of ensuring economic sustainability in the region, it is imperative to consistently increase cooperation and progressively implement all previously reached agreements, he said. “It is important to use the already existing practices and institutions of economic cooperation within the SCO,” the first deputy minister of foreign affairs added.
