MINSK, 22 April (BelTA) – The Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has responded to Lithuania's statement about possible accreditation of U.S. Ambassador Julie Fisher in Lithuania, BelTA has learned.
“Frankly speaking, we do not have any official information in this regard. It is somehow flippant to rely on the statements of various Lithuanian officials as they have recently been so numerous and contradictory. When things get more clear, then we will be able to discuss this matter more substantively,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs told journalists.
“However, from academic and professional point of view, we do not even quite understand what kind of accreditation we are talking about? Purely hypothetically, if this is the accreditation of the ambassador at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania, it means that there will be two U.S. ambassadors in Lithuania representing American interests there,” the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs continued.
“It is absolutely obvious that the ambassador based in Lithuania cannot have and will never have anything to do with Belarus,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.
