Belarus’ MFA expresses concern over escalation of conflict in Middle East

MINSK, 22 June (BelTA) - The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belarus expresses deep concern over the sharp escalation of the conflict in the Middle East, BelTA has learned from the ministry.

“We are extremely concerned about reports of strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities carried out by the United States of America,” the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement. “We view these actions as an extremely dangerous escalation, which has unpredictable consequences for the entire region and suffering for the peoples inhabiting it.”

As a country affected by the Chernobyl accident, Belarus understands the grave consequences of bombing nuclear facilities in Iran. These facilities are under IAEA control.

The Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs urges all parties involved to exercise maximum restraint.

“We believe that the only sustainable solution is the diplomatic path and compliance with international law, including the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons and the Geneva Conventions of 1949,” the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.
