Belarus' MFA comments on new U.S. sanctions on Russia

MINSK, 16 April (BelTA) - At the request of journalists, the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs commented on a new package of sanctions introduced by the United States against Russia, BelTA has learned.

“We believe, and we have repeatedly said so, that sanctions are obviously a useless and counterproductive tool. In fact, it is a deliberate sabotage. They cover everything up with a plausible pretext but in fact inflict deliberate damage on companies and the wellbeing of citizens, including from the countries that impose sanctions. Business contacts are disrupted, tension is generated, instability increases on a global scale,” the ministry said.

The Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs is absolutely sure that such steps by the United States will not bring any effect but harm, just as it has already happened in the past.

“We are against this way of communication and stand for a constructive and mutually respectful dialogue between Russia and the United States. This is extremely important as this process has a significant impact on security and stability in our region. For us it is also another clear indicator whether we can trust some of our partners and a signal for even more active development of cooperation relying on our own strength within the EAEU and other integration associations,” the ministry said.
