MINSK, 7 June (BelTA) - The Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs calls upon Poland to restore full cooperation in law enforcement, press secretary of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Anatoly Glaz told the media as he commented on the recent incident at the Belarusian-Polish border, BelTA has learned.
According to Anatoly Glaz, the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has received a note from the Polish side: “We have received a note, which will be considered taking into account all the circumstances. We extend heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of the deceased.”
“It is no doubt that we need to restore normal border contacts so that such tragedies do not happen,” he continued.
The press sectary explained: “A few years ago Poland decided to break off cooperation with Belarus in law enforcement, stopped contacts on legal assistance as well as the dialogue between border commissioners. I would like to emphasize that the Polish authorities did it unilaterally.”
“Our position is consistent. We are open to mutually respectful dialogue. Belarus is also ready to restore cooperation in law enforcement. This, however, means to be a two-way street. Such interaction can be restored only in full. Without this, such public notes are not a way to solve the problem, but an excessive politicization of a very specific issue, an attempt to justify themselves to their own public opinion and shift responsibility,” the official representative of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.
“Unfortunately, there have recently been more cases of Polish military deaths on the border. The Polish authorities, however, decide not to mention them so publicly for some reason,” Anatoly Glaz said.
