Belarus’ FM meets with colleagues from Algeria, Philippines, North Korea at NAM summit in Uganda

MINSK, 18 January (BelTA) – Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergei Aleinik held a number of bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the 19th summit of the Non-Aligned Movement in Uganda, the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs told BelTA.

Negotiations with Minister of Foreign Affairs and National Community Abroad of Algeria Ahmed Attaf focused on cooperation in agriculture, deliveries of Belarusian machines, vehicles, and equipment, manufacturing cooperation projects, and the development of the legal base.

Sergei Aleinik thanked his counterpart for a positive decision on the important matter of certification of Belarusian dairy products for the sake of deliveries to the Algerian market. In turn, his counterpart stressed the invariably high quality of Belarusian goods and the renown and a positive image Belarusian machines and vehicles enjoy among Algerian agrarians.

The parties discussed prospects of starting the work of a joint commission on trade and economic cooperation as well as a schedule of contacts at various levels. Algeria’s cooperation with the Eurasian Economic Union was mentioned as well as prospects of conjoining the Eurasian free trade zone with the African one. As for political matters, the ministers stated that approaches to the majority of pressing issues practically completely coincide.

Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Philippines Enrique Manalo and Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergei Aleinik discussed ways to step up trade and economic cooperation between the two countries. Agreements were reached on organizing consultations between the ministries of foreign affairs this year and on stepping up contacts between the parliaments. Close attention was paid to the expansion of the legal base.

Sergei Aleinik and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uganda Haji Abubaker Odongo discussed a broad range of matters, including prospects of deliveries of Belarusian machines, vehicles, equipment, and technologies, the signing of contracts and agreements, and ways to step up cooperation on international platforms. Haji Abubaker Odongo confirmed the intention to come to Minsk on an official visit this year.

Sergei Aleinik also met with Uganda Minister of State for Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries Bright Rwamirama. The two officials discussed prospects of expanding cooperation in agriculture, including the formation of the legal base on agriculture. The Ugandan side was also invited to participate in the agriculture expo Belagro 2024, which will take place in Minsk on 4-9 June.

Prospects of stepping up bilateral cooperation were discussed with a deputy minister of foreign affairs of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK).
