Belarus’ FM: A just multipolar world relies on UN Charter

MINSK, 25 October (BelTA) - The more we rely on the principles of the UN Charter, the more just the multipolar world will be, Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Maxim Ryzhenkov said during a ceremony to plant a commemorative UN 80th Anniversary Alley in the Uruchye Park in Minsk on 25 October, BelTA has learned.

“A large diplomatic family has gathered today for an event dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the UN. It is an important endeavor to reinforce our friendship and cooperation not just with words, but with concrete actions,” Maxim Ryzhenkov said.

He stressed that this new alley would stand for years as a symbol of the principles laid down 80 years ago as the Organization's foundation: peace, trust, justice, and mutual respect.

“This is what unites us, both as diplomats and as people doing a good deed today. The stronger the roots, the stronger the tree. The stronger the roots of our diplomacy, the more we rely on the principles of the UN Charter, the more just the multipolar world will be,” the Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs said.

Speaking to the media, Maxim Ryzhenkov highlighted the enduring importance of the UN Charter's principles, which for 80 years have fostered, and will continue to foster, peaceful development across the globe.

“Today we say ‘yes’ to international cooperation, today we affirm not with words, but with deeds, the high level of mutual trust between representatives of different countries who have gathered here,” the minister said.

Rustam Baghirov thanked the Ministry of Foreign Affairs team for organizing the events to mark the UN’s 80th anniversary, including the planting of this alley.

The ceremonial event was attended by representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the UN country team, the diplomatic corps accredited in Belarus, youth representatives, and veterans of the diplomatic service.

The ceremony participants planted 80 linden trees, symbolizing the years of the UN's operation.
