Belarus expresses unwavering support and solidarity with Cuba

MINSK, 20 February (BelTA) - Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to Cuba Vitaly Borchuk participated in a briefing held in Havana for representatives of the diplomatic corps accredited in the country and international organizations, BelTA learned from the Belarusian embassy in Cuba.

Cuban First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Gerardo Peñalver Portal commented on the current situation on the island. During the exchange of views among the participants, Vitaly Borchuk noted that Belarus and Cuba have been connected by traditionally friendly relations for many decades.

The head of the Belarusian diplomatic mission also voiced concern over the evolving situation around Cuba, particularly regarding energy supplies. In this context, the ambassador stressed that Belarus expresses its unwavering support and solidarity with the kin Cuban people and urged that all differences be resolved through peaceful negotiations and within the framework of international law. The ambassador expressed his sincere hope for adherence to the principles of mutual respect and the peaceful settlement of all disputes.

Diplomatic relations between Belarus and Cuba were established in April 1992. In October 1997, a decision was made to transform the Belarusian trade representation in Cuba into an embassy, which became the first diplomatic mission of the Republic of Belarus in Latin America and the Caribbean. Cuba is a significant partner of Belarus in the international arena.
