MINSK, 4 June (BelTA) - Belarus and the Kingdom of Eswatini have established diplomatic relations. The corresponding joint communiqué was signed in Pretoria on 4 June, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The ceremony was attended by Ambassador of Belarus to South Africa Igor Bely and High Commissioner of the Eswatini Embassy in South Africa Lindiwe Kunene.

“This event opens up opportunities for the development of the whole range of relations between the two countries in political dialogue, promotion of trade and economic cooperation, establishment of ties in education, healthcare, science and technology, cultural exchange,” the ministry emphasized.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, work on certain areas of cooperation between the two countries is already underway. There is a mutual interest in the development of a legal framework for the Belarusian-Eswatian relations.

The heads of diplomatic missions discussed further practical steps to develop bilateral interaction.

“For a long time, Eswatini remained on the extremely short list of countries that do not have diplomatic relations with Belarus. Changes in the international and regional situation, as well as actions taken by the Belarusian diplomacy to promote the idea of mutually beneficial cooperation of African partners against the background of neo-colonial approaches of some international players convince more and more leaders of African states in the prospects of developing relations with Belarus,” the ministry added.
