Belarus’ diplomats receive nine requests for help with leaving Afghanistan

MINSK, 18 August (BelTA) – Belarusian diplomats have received nine requests for assistance to leave Afghanistan, Belarusian Ambassador to Tajikistan with concurrent accreditation to Afghanistan Oleg Ivanov told the Mir TV company, BelTA informs.

“By now, we have received nine requests from Minsk and Kabul to help Belarusian nationals, Afghanistan citizens with a residence permit in Belarus or members of mixed families. You know, we do not discriminate. If people turn to us for help, we will try to help. We have already got in touch with all those who contacted us. We discussed possible options. It is not easy to do it now. Last year we helped everyone who found themselves in a difficult situation abroad due to the pandemic. We will try to help now, though we will not be able to do it right away, but we will definitely lend a helping hand,” Oleg Ivanov said.

According to him, Belarusians are treated fairly well in Afghanistan. “Belarus has never acted as an aggressor. It has never shown any excessive geopolitical ambitions. Everything we did for Afghanistan was prompted by our determination to facilitate the development of the country and build its human potential. Therefore, at present I see no direct threat to our citizens or those Afghans who turned to us for assistance. And I don't see that there will be any forces that will stand in our way. Moreover, we have already reached preliminary agreements with our partners, including international ones, to provide all possible assistance to Belarusian citizens or Afghans with a residence permit in Belarus. I think we will resolve this issue in the near future,” the ambassador emphasized

As Belarus has no embassy in Afghanistan, people who need help can apply to the country’s diplomatic mission in Tajikistan.
