MINSK, 26 August (BelTA) - Belarus used to be a huge shield that did not let migrants into the European Union. The West has forgotten about it today, member of the Leoben municipal council Dr. Werner Gerhard Murgg said at a press conference in the House of Friendship on 26 August. The Austrian politician is on a visit to Belarus as part of the delegation of the Austria-Belarus Friendship Society, BelTA has learned.
Werner Gerhard Murgg said: “There is one more topic that for some reason nobody in the EU wants to discuss now. Belarus protected it against the migration crisis before the West imposed sanctions. Belarus was actually a huge reliable shield, which did not let migrants through.”
"At the initiative of the European side, many agreements with Belarus have actually been severed, all agreements have been nullified. But for some reason, they believe that Belarus should honor the agreements on refugees as before and protect the European Union from the flow of refugees, from the migration
crisis," the MP said.
"But why should Belarus do it now?” Werner Gerhard Murgg asked. “Here we see the EU's double standards again."
