Belarus, Cuba seen as beacons of survival in geopolitical struggle

MINSK, 7 July (BelTA) - Belarus and Cuba are beacons of survival in the geopolitical struggle, Sergei Klishevich,a member of the House of Representatives of Belarus, told reporters in Minsk on 7 July, BelTA reports.

"Cuba is our closest ally and partner on the Latin American continent. It was in Cuba that Belarus opened its first embassy in Latin America. In the context of geopolitical struggle and geopolitical divisions, Belarus and Cuba are the beacons that the world is looking at. Belarus has been under sanctions for more than a dozen years, and Cuba - for more than 60 years. The national idea is what unites us," said Sergei Klishevich.

Despite the geographical remoteness, we the countries maintain close economic ties, the MP noted. "Now relations have intensified in many avenues, including agriculture, industry, supplies of vehicles and medical equipment. We highly appreciate Cuba's R&D in medicine which is renowned around the world. Now is the time when we should unite and help each other. Our economies are complementary. Cuba has what we lack and vice versa. It is important to cooperate as we will benefit from such cooperation," he said. “Cuba is famous for its tourism. We just need to adjust logistics. This is what we are working on. Our governments and ministries are now developing a route that will ease access for our tourists to that region and make is cheaper."

The House of Representatives is hosting a meeting between the working group on cooperation with the Parliament of the Republic of Cuba at Belarus' National Assembly and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Cuba to Belarus Santiago Perez Benitez. The meeting participants are set to adopt an address in support of the Cuban people and government, to condemn another attempt by the United States to destabilize the Island of Freedom and also discuss the widest range of issues of cooperation in politics and economy.
