MINSK, 19 December (BelTA) – The foreign policy pursued by Poland can result in an uncontrolled escalation in Europe, BelTA learned from Press Secretary of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Anatoly Glaz.
The other day Polish Minister of Foreign Affairs Radosław Sikorski identified priorities of the ministry within the framework of Poland’s presidency over the European Union that will take place in H1 2025. A lot of attention is paid to Belarus: Poland intends to support and expand sanctions, reinforce the border, and raise resources for the East Shield.
Anatoly Glaz said: “We have familiarized ourselves with the declared priorities of the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs within the framework of Poland’s presidency over the Council of the European Union. The Polish elites in power change, but their well-known essence doesn’t. Almost €200 billion granted by the European Union to Poland earlier for ‘restoring the country after the Soviet occupation’ seems to have already been distributed in the way accepted in Poland and it is now necessary to look for new sources of enrichment. The desire to line pockets at the expense of European taxpayers by exploiting the theme of the threat from the East is once again in evidence.”
The official reminded that Poland has already built a fence in Belovezhskaya Pushcha. It does not work well as a fence but it is great at diverting uncontrolled appropriations to “necessary goals”. The East Shield that may cost billions of euros is next.
“Dreams of Poland’s leadership about Warsaw leading the European Union are not news either. Warsaw believes that Germany’s and France’s leadership has weakened. It is understandable how Poland intends to exploit it. Through extreme anti-Belarusian and anti-Russian prejudices, through the historically customary demonization of Poland’s eastern neighbors. In the next six months this folly will take ever more threatening forms and will pour out of the Warsaw offices onto the entire European Union. Occupants of these offices cannot fail to realize that such a policy may lead to an uncontrolled escalation of the situation in Europe,” the press secretary of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stressed.
Anatoly Glaz remarked that they do not seem to be bothered by consequences of these eventualities for the entire region and for the Polish nation.
