MINSK, 18 March (BelTA) – Preparations are in progress for a meeting of the Belarus president with heads of Belarusian diplomatic missions. Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Maxim Ryzhenkov made the relevant statement on the air of the TV channel Belarus One, BelTA has learned.
The minister stressed that the matter was discussed as he delivered his report to the head of state earlier on 18 March. “I would very much like to make this meeting as productive as possible,” Maxim Ryzhenkov said. “I am talking not only about evaluating the performance of various ambassadors as they advance relations with various countries where nothing has been accomplished or little has been accomplished and vice versa: giving positive reviews to those ambassadors, who actually produce results in the form of higher trade or investments.”
“Let me put it like this: if relations between countries improve and, as a matter of fact, with a decent result for us and for our partners, we should not credit only our embassy with it regardless of my respect and love for our diplomats. It is an accumulative effect of cooperation in all areas such as interregional cooperation, industry-specific cooperation, and the parliamentary dimension,” Maxim Ryzhenkov stressed.
He went on saying: “All of it together produces results, which neatly translates later into figures of trade turnover, into some visits, into the raising of investments, and the realization of some humanitarian cooperation projects. And on the contrary, not only the ambassador is to blame everywhere where everything is bad. Yes, ambassadors are the key communicators. One can say they are the key initiators of ideas, of creative steps for advancing cooperation.”
“This is why we are intent on organizing such an event involving our ambassadors. Most likely it will take place in summer although the president concedes other possibilities, too. This conference should gather up all those, on whom the development of export and import flows depends as well as investments into our country or our investments into some countries that produce a good effect,” the Belarusian minister of foreign affairs said.
He pointed out: “We come up with creative solutions to every sanction. For that we need kind of a brain storm where in the presence of the president this analysis will be carried out and an opportunity will be available to speak up, present proposals, hear the president, and continue working.”
