MINSK, 7 June (BelTA). The development of Belarusian-Chinese interaction was discussed as Chairman of the International Affairs and National Security Commission of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus Sergei Aleinik met with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People’s Republic of China to the Republic of Belarus Zhang Wenchuan, the press service of the upper chamber of the parliament told BelTA.
During the meeting the parties emphasized the importance of the visit of Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko to China on 2-4 June and his meeting with China President Xi Jinping.
Sergei Aleinik and Zhang Wenchuan agreed that personal friendship and good relations between the leaders of the two countries allow establishing a clear vector for the development of the Belarusian-Chinese all-weather and all-round strategic partnership. During the meeting in Beijing the course in favor of further strengthening friendship and cooperation, primarily in industry and technology, was confirmed.
“It is important that our leaders have agreed to intensify relations between Belarus and China. Interparliamentary interaction is also an important component of the entire complex of Belarusian-Chinese cooperation,” Sergei Aleinik emphasized.
The parties discussed matters of preparations for the upcoming visit to Minsk of a Chinese parliament delegation led by Zhang Qingwei, Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress and member of the CPC Central Committee.
The second session of the high-level committee on cooperation between the legislative bodies of the two countries is scheduled to take place within the framework of the visit. The committee was established in accordance with the Belarusian-Chinese interparliamentary agreement in 2023. The co-chairperson of the committee from the Belarusian side is Natalya Kochanova, Chairwoman of the Council of the Republic. The committee is co-chaired by Zhang Qingwei on the Chinese side. During the committee’s session the parties are expected to consider a wide range of matters related to Belarusian-Chinese cooperation, including the development of interregional ties.
Sergei Aleinik noted that the upcoming visit is viewed as an important step toward further invigoration of the interparliamentary dialogue between Belarus and China in the context of strengthening the all-weather and all-round strategic partnership.
