MINSK, 18 September (BelTA) - The Central Election Commission (CEC) of Belarus is interested in developing cooperation with Turkmenistan, CEC Chairman Igor Karpenko said as he met with Deputy Chairman of the Central Commission for Holding Elections and Referendums in Turkmenistan Amangeldi Gandymov, BelTA has learned.
“Just recently we met with you during the electoral campaign for the extraordinary parliamentary elections of Azerbaijan as part of the CIS mission. We actively cooperate with the Central Commission for Holding Elections and Referendums in Turkmenistan. We are always open for interaction and bilateral cooperation not only within the CIS Advisory Council of Heads of Electoral Bodies. You have not yet ratified this agreement. At the same time, we traditionally invite the countries that have not yet ratified the agreement as observers. We have no closed topics there. We discuss our professional issues, from conducting election campaigns to ensuring their security and electoral sovereignty,” Igor Karpenko said. “We are interested in the experience of each country.”
Amangeldi Gandymov thanked for the invitation and warm welcome. “We are sure that this forum will be very useful for the exchange of experience in electoral law. We have been to Belarus before, and every time we get good impressions. Minsk is a very beautiful city. Very kind people live in Belarus,” he said. “We wish you a successful electoral forum.”
The meeting took place as part of the International Electoral Forum which is underway Minsk on 18-21 September. The forum will open up new opportunities for exchanging best practices, expertise and ideas, and will become a platform for open discussions between professionals and all those interested in electoral law and technology. The forum will be centered around security and digitalization of the electoral process, civil society participation in elections, and legal education of young people.
On 18 September, the CEC of Belarus will host delegations from Turkmenistan, Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan. The forum will include a meeting of the CIS Advisory Council of Heads of Electoral Bodies, and an international scientific and practical conference “International Standards in the Electoral Process: Experience and Development Prospects”. The forum will wrap up with the youth project Vybirai.BY in the Stolitsa Mall on 20 September.
