Belarus’ CEC publishes final election results

MINSK, 1 March (BelTA) – The Central Election Commission of Belarus has published the final results of the latest elections, BelTA has learned.

CEC Chairman Igor Karpenko said: “A single voting day took place in the Republic of Belarus on 25 February to elect members of the eighth-convocation House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus and members of the 29th convocation of municipal councils of deputies. It was the first time the deputies had been elected in this format on the basis of the updated Constitution and Electoral Code of the Republic of Belarus. The election campaign took place within the timeframe stipulated by the legislation and specified by the calendar plan the Central Election Commission had passed to stipulate the organizational steps meant to prepare and carry out the single voting day.”

As many as 6,805 election commissions enabled elections and voting. They consisted of 66,692 people. As many as 45,505 domestic observers and 294 foreign (international) observers worked in the country. Young people took an active part in the elections. Nearly 77% of the people on the lists of first-time voters came to the polls.

On the single voting day Belarusians elected 110 members of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly and 12,511 members of various municipal councils of deputies.

The percentage of voters, who cast their votes across the Republic of Belarus, amounted to 73.1%.
