MINSK, 2 February (BelTA) – Work to set up polling stations for the national referendum has been completed, BelTA learned from the Central Election Commission of Belarus.
"All in all, 5,510 polling stations have been set up in the Republic of Belarus, including 217 in health resorts and recreation centers, hospitals and other healthcare institutions that provide inpatient medical care, and 12 in military units. The largest number of polling stations has been established in Gomel Oblast and Minsk Oblast (977 and 929 respectively), 883 - in Brest Oblast, 714 - in Vitebsk Oblast, 707 - in Mogilev Oblast, 608 - in Grodno Oblast and 692 - in the city of Minsk," the CEC said.
There were 5,723 polling stations for the presidential election in Belarus in 2020, which was 213 more than during the current referendum campaign. The fewer number is due to a decrease in the number of rural population, the unification of small polling districts into larger ones and optimization of organizations.
“According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the heads of Belarusian foreign missions decided not to set up polling stations for the national referendum outside the Republic of Belarus due to objective reasons (epidemiological situation and relevant measures and requirements, the inability to ensure a sufficient level of security of the voting process and the lack of the necessary number of citizens on the consular registry,” the Central Election Commission said.
