Belarus calls for prompt de-escalation of Israeli-Palestinian conflict

MINSK, 15 May (BelTA) - The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belarus calls for a prompt de-escalation of the situation in the zone of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, Anatoly Glaz, Head of the Information and Digital Diplomacy Office, Press Secretary of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, told the media, BelTA has learned.

"It is with great concern that we have been following what is happening in the conflict zone. I do not think that we have the right to lecture anyone in this situation. Yet we cannot ignore the negative consequences of the tensions that have been increasing daily in the region, that is not alien to us. We are concerned about human tragedies," Anatoly Glaz said.

The ministry stressed that Belarus has consistently advocated the primacy of international law in interstate relations. “Any subject has a natural right to defend itself. We deeply believe that both Israelis and Palestinians have a fundamental right to live in peace and security. However, the exercise of this right and also the pursuit of own interests should be carried out within the framework of international law," said Anatoly Glaz.

"We hope that it is through the use of political and diplomatic mechanisms that the parties will be able to de-escalate the situation as soon as possible," Anatoly Glaz added.
