Belarus-Azerbaijan relations viewed as strategic partnership

MINSK, 16 November (BelTA) - The relations between Belarus and Azerbaijan are viewed as a strategic partnership, Belarusian Deputy Prime Minister Igor Petrishenko said as he met with Ali Ahmadov, Deputy Prime Minister of Azerbaijan, on 15 November, BelTA has learned.

“The relations between Belarus and Azerbaijan, which are based on firm friendship between the leaders of our countries and the two brotherly nations, are of a strategic partnership. It is natural that the complicated global political situation has not had any negative impact on our relations. On the contrary, we have always supported each other in difficult times, and this tradition continues. Mutually beneficial economic cooperation is the flagship for further development of relations between Belarus and Azerbaijan,” said Igor Petrishenko.

According to the deputy prime minister, the interest in expanding trade and economic cooperation on equal and mutually beneficial terms has been repeatedly confirmed in the course of bilateral events held this year. “The visit of the Belarusian prime minister to Azerbaijan in May, the meeting of heads of governments in Cholpon-Ata in August, as well as the 12th meeting of the intergovernmental commission held on 1 June testify to the fact. We have outlined areas of cooperation in the economic sector and signed the relevant documents. One of the tasks of the intergovernmental commission is to ensure their implementation,” said Igor Petrishenko.

He expressed confidence that today's meeting will make it possible to compare notes in relation to the implementation of bilateral agreements, to discuss plans for visits and events and to identify specific areas of mutually beneficial cooperation.

“Let me give you just one example of such new opportunities, to which we can promptly respond. Taking into account the intensive growth of Azerbaijan's transit potential and the significant demand for railway freight cars, we are ready to supply you with various types of cars - from oil tank cars to freight railway platforms for transportation of containers, as well as containers themselves. The capacity of the two Belarusian railway carriage works let us do it in the shortest possible time,” the deputy prime minister stressed.

“I am convinced that we have a lot of reserves and mutually beneficial areas of cooperation, which we can use for the benefit of our countries. Through our joint efforts we can ensure that our economic cooperation reaches a qualitatively higher level,” the deputy prime minister added.
