Belarus appreciates Russia's firm stance on human rights at UN, OSCE

MINSK, 26 November (BelTA) - Belarus highly appreciates the reliable, firm and consistent position of Russia during the discussions of human rights issues at the United Nations and the OSCE, Belarus Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei told reporters following a joint meeting of the collegiums of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Belarus and Russia in Minsk on 26 November, BelTA has learned.

Vladimir Makei emphasized that recent meetings on the ‘Belarusian issue' in the Human Rights Council and the OSCE and the unjustified sanctions clearly demonstrate the politicization and exacerbation of the situation by the European Union. In his opinion, there is a clear abuse of human rights themes and application of double standards to our countries that do not share supposedly universal Western ‘values' and that cherish their own sovereignty.

“I note with appreciation the support provided by Russia in the post-election period amid aggressive external pressure on the Belarusian authorities and attempts to destabilize the situation here. We will continue to firmly oppose the attempts to interfere with the internal affairs of Belarus, and to impose unilateral mediation services by individual states and international organizations,” the minister said.
