MINSK, 28 January (BelTA) – Representatives of the Belarusian embassy in Israel took part in the events marking International Holocaust Remembrance Day on 27 January, BelTA learned from the Belarusian diplomatic mission in Israel.
“In the Yaar Ha Kdushim grove of memory near Jerusalem, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to Israel Yevgeny Vorobyov laid a wreath at the memorial to the victims of Jewish ghettos in Belarus, killed by the Nazis during the Great Patriotic War. A visit to this place, which keeps capsules with soil from Minsk ghetto and other places of mass extermination of Jews in Belarus, is one of the main traditions of Belarusian diplomats and many compatriots living in Israel in memory of Nazi victims,” the embassy said.
On the same day, Belarusian diplomats together with representatives of the diplomatic missions of Russia, Kazakhstan, Moldova, Uzbekistan, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Israel and municipal authorities laid a wreath at the Memorial Candle Monument in Jerusalem, which honors the heroic deeds of the defenders and residents of the besieged Leningrad.
The Belarusian ambassador also took part in the video conferences organized under the auspices of Israel's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Yad Vashem Holocaust memorial complex.
On 26 January, the Belarusian ambassador lit candles with the names of the Holocaust victims during a solemn video ceremony of lighting candles, organized by the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs for the heads of foreign missions.
