MINSK, 22 January (BelTA) – Belarus has added an item on the agenda of the OSCE Permanent Council meeting concerning U.S. President Donald Trump’s Board of Peace initiative, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

“The Belarusian delegation has added the item ‘On the initiative of U.S. President Donald Trump to establish the Board of Pesce’ on the agenda of the OSCE Permanent Council meeting and delivered a statement,” the ministry said.

Belarus’ Permanent Representative to the OSCE Andrei Dapkiunas noted that the Belarusian president was among the first world leaders to respond to the U.S. president’s proposal. The head of state have signed the document on Belarus’ accession to the Board of Peace and the implementation of the provisions of its Charter.

“In Belarus, we highly appreciate that the United States sees Belarus as a state ready to take on the responsibility for building a lasting peace and to lead by example, investing in a safe and prosperous future for generations to come. The proposal to the Belarusian president to become a founding member of the Board of Peace underscores his personal commitment to consistently promoting an equal dialogue between states with different development models and values, and the need to form a just, indivisible, and sustainable international security architecture,” the statement reads.

The statement further emphasized that the purpose of the Board of Peace is to institutionalize dialogue over diktat, adding that the U.S. president’s initiative aligns with the aspirations of nations weary of confrontation, the pressure of sanctions, and bloc confrontation.

The Belarusian side also considers it important that the stated goal of the Board of Peace is not only to establish lasting peace in the Middle East but also to create a new paradigm for resolving conflicts globally. “This is precisely why, when deciding to participate in the work of the Board of Peace, Belarus thinks about the future and hopes that this organization will expand its framework far beyond the initially proposed scope of the initiative,” the statement notes.

Andrei Dapkiunas stated that this will allow for active participation in global processes settle international conflicts, which will ultimately contribute to the speedy establishment of a new security architecture actively promoted by Belarus in recent years.

“Belarus’ decision to support this initiative and join the Board of Peace reinforces its principled course towards dialogue, de-escalation, and the search for political and diplomatic solutions. Security cannot be selective, and peace cannot be a privilege of individual states. Peace is either common, or it does not exist at all,” the Belarusian diplomat said.

At the same time, Belarus believes that the Board of Peace is not an alternative to existing international organizations.

The statement notes that the OSCE, created as a space for equal dialogue and consensus, is currently experiencing its deepest crisis. “President Trump’s initiative is an invaluable signal for the OSCE: either the participating states, divided by a chasm of misunderstanding and hostility, will still be able to responsibly use OSCE mechanisms for equal and respectful dialogue, or the organization will simply fade into oblivion,” the Belarusian representative added.

The diplomat also stated that the initiative to establish the Board of Peace is an attempt to restore lost trust, respect, and the ability to negotiate in international relations.
