MINSK, 7 April (BelTA) – Belarusian specialists continue doing systemic work to counteract real threats. The press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs made the statement after an attempt was made to smuggle explosives into the country, BelTA has learned.

The Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said: “The Belarusian customs service stopped an attempt to smuggle the largest batch of explosive substances in the history of our country into the territory of the Union State [of Belarus and Russia]. It is a logical continuation of Belarus’ persistent and responsible policy on ensuring the security of the common Union State borders. While Polish colleagues focus on control over migration flows and declare the creation of ‘Europe’s most protected border’, Belarusian specialists continue doing systemic work to counteract real threats. And as we can see, they do it on behalf of Poland as well.”

The ministry’s press service stressed that professionalism and prompt attention of the Belarusian customs service had allowed seizing the dangerous materials and foiling the potential plans for using them.

“Keeping these materials out of hands of criminals has ruled out the possibility of scenarios that may result in mass casualties and destruction. It is a miracle that the truck went through several Eastern European states without blowing up. What would happen if an accidental spark, a traffic accident or a lightning strike made a catastrophe out of the disastrous transit?” the ministry wondered.
