Ambassador: Upcoming visit of general secretary will mark new stage in Vietnam-Belarus cooperation

MINSK, 11 May (BelTA) - The forthcoming visit of General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam To Lam is a landmark event in the Belarus-Vietnam cooperation, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam to the Republic of Belarus Nguyen Van Ngu said in an interview with BelTA in the run-up to the visit.

"I am deeply convinced that the visit to Belarus by the general secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam will give a new impetus to the bilateral relations, make it possible to outline areas for further deepening of our friendly relations, create a basis for more active cooperation between ministries, departments, regional authorities and enterprises of the two countries and better utilize mutual potential," the diplomat emphasized.

"Pursuing an independent and autonomous foreign policy aimed at peace, friendship, cooperation and development, multilateralism and diversification of international relations, proactive and active international integration, being a friend, reliable partner and an active and responsible member of the international community, Vietnam wishes to continue to strengthen and expand its friendship and multifaceted cooperation with Belarus for the benefit of the peoples of the two countries, for peace, cooperation and development, and in accordance with the international and regional context, which is currently undergoing many fundamental changes,” the Ambassador said.

"I think this is just the beginning of a new phase of bilateral cooperation, as there is still a lot of untapped potential in cooperation between the two countries, for example in trade and economy, especially since the   products with a strong export edge made in the two countries are complementary," the diplomatic chief added.

"While Vietnam makes products such as rice, coffee, seafood and textiles that are well known in the world market, Belarus is famous for potash fertilizers, agricultural machinery, meat and dairy products, as well as many other high-quality goods," the ambassador pointed out. “Tourism is also one of the promising areas of cooperation that the two countries can jointly promote in the near future, especially given the intergovernmental agreement on visa-free travel between the two countries that entered into force on 30 January 2025."
