MINSK, 12 September (BelTA) - Serbia values its consistently friendly relations with Belarus, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Serbia to Belarus Ilina Vukajlovic told BelTA.

The diplomat emphasized the traditionally close ties between Serbia and Belarus in many areas. She added that people of Serbia have a good knowledge of Belarus, know about head of state Aleksandr Lukashenko, who visited Belgrade, including during the difficult period for the Serbs in 1998-1999. The president of Belarus was also on a visit to Serbia in 2019.

According to Ilina Vukajlovic, Serbia is also grateful to Belarus for its support in preserving territorial integrity. “Serbia is facing huge challenges. A serious problem is the tense situation in Serbia's autonomous province of Kosovo and Metohija. There, due to the numerous repressive measures of the leadership of the self-proclaimed Kosovo based on ethnic intolerance, tensions are only growing day by day. This is a matter of great concern for us, and at the same time we are committed to an exclusively peaceful resolution of the issue,” the head of the diplomatic mission said.

“Belarus has always supported and continues to support Serbia on important topics,” the diplomat emphasized, drawing attention to the firmness of the Belarusian position in the international arena and, in particular, during the adoption of documents on international platforms at the UN General Assembly in support of Serbia.

Ilina Vukajlovic has not been working in Belarus for a long time, but she has already visited four regions of Belarus and continues exploring Belarus.
