MINSK, 17 March (BelTA) – Relations between Belarus and Uzbekistan have reached an unprecedented level, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Uzbekistan to Belarus Rakhmatulla Nazarov told reporters following his meeting with Chairperson of the Council of the Republic Natalya Kochanova, BelTA has learned.

“Thanks to our leaders, bilateral relations have achieved an unprecedented level over the past three decades. Today we have discussed the entire spectrum of the Belarus-Uzbekistan agenda, including political, trade, economic, cultural and humanitarian issues. Indeed, a constructive conversation took place. You know that last year President of Belarus Aleksandr Grigorievich Lukashenko paid an official visit to Uzbekistan, which resulted in many agreements. Today we took stock of the progress to implement them. The Council of the Republic and the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan are among the key bodies that oversee their implementation, since many agreements were signed between the regions,” the ambassador said.
Belarus and Uzbekistan are interested in strengthening inter-regional ties. “Indeed, inter-regional cooperation is making good progress. Almost all regions of Uzbekistan and Belarus and the city of Minsk have partnership agreements. A schedule of mutual visits of local government delegations was approved last year,” Rakhmatulla Nazarov noted.
“Bilateral contacts are also on the rise in the social field, including in culture, education, healthcare, sports, and tourism. These issues were also discussed in great detail, since joint educational programs between Uzbekistan and Belarus have been running in the 2+2 format since 2019. A lot of students [from Uzbekistan] study in Belarus. The education in Belarus is really of a very high quality. Uzbekistan knows this very well,” the ambassador added.
