MINSK, 23 July (BelTA) – Belarus’ Minsk and China’s Qingdao are demonstrating how interregional cooperation should develop, aligning with the vision set by the leaders of both countries, Belarus’ Ambassador to China Aleksandr Chervyakov said in an interview with Andrei Krivosheyev, Chairman of the Belarusian Union of Journalists, BelTA has learned.
Minsk and Qingdao have recently signed a memorandum on strengthening partnership ties between the two cities. The document was signed by Minsk Mayor Vladimir Kukharev and Qingdao Mayor Zhao Haozhi on the sidelines of the Qingdao International Friendship Cities Exchange Month forum. Building on the 2024 agreement establishing a partnership between Minsk and Qingdao, the two sides agreed to deepen cooperation in industry, sports, tourism, culture, and education.
According to Aleksandr Chervyakov, during the visit of Minsk’s delegation, a working group meeting was organized to result in a list of follow-up measures to advance cooperation. “The institutional framework has been established. Now it's time to move toward practical implementation, i.e. business engagement,” he said.
A meeting was also held with representatives of Chinese businesses, including major global companies. The Belarusian delegation had the opportunity to explore China’s advancements in urban digitalization, traffic safety systems, municipal management, and energy solutions. “Integrated urban management solutions are exactly what Minsk needs. Another key focus was ecology, particularly waste recycling - a critical issue for Belarus’ major cities. China’s environmental standards today are extremely high, in many cases stricter than those in European countries,” the ambassador remarked. “What we saw was a full-cycle recycling process producing electricity, household gas, and construction materials. This is a real, tangible project.”
Additionally, meetings took place with companies specializing in timber processing.
“Beyond the institutional aspects, the agenda was highly practical. Work went on from morning till night. This is the kind of approach all other Belarusian regions should adopt in their cooperation with Chinese provinces,” Aleksandr Chervyakov added.
