Ambassador: India, Belarus are gearing up for ministerial consultations

MINSK, 18 June (BelTA) - India and Belarus are gearing up to hold consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and a meeting of the intergovernmental commission, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of India to Belarus Ashok Kumar told a press conference at the National Press Center to mark the International Yoga Day, BelTA has learned.

“Last year, visits were made by delegations to discuss cooperation in defense, science and technology, agriculture, and pharmaceuticals,” he said. “Now the parties are preparing ground for holding consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and a meeting of the intergovernmental commission, which are set to take place in Minsk this year.”

Ashok Kumar drew attention to the importance of the meeting of the foreign ministers of Belarus and India that took place in Astana in the summer of 2024. “They discussed current bilateral relations and the future potential for growth of these relations. The key areas of cooperation between our countries are trade, investment, economic contacts, as well as cooperation in defense and security, cultural exchanges, student and teacher exchanges,” the diplomat emphasized.

India welcomes Belarus as a new member of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, the ambassador added.

Diplomatic relations between the Republic of Belarus and the Republic of India were established on 17 April 1992. The Embassy of India was opened in Minsk in May 1992. Belarus opened its embassy in New Delhi in June 1998.
