Ambassador: France intends to develop cooperation with Belarus in matters of European stability

MINSK, 15 July (BelTA) - France intends to develop cooperation with Belarus, especially in matters relating to European stability, Ambassador of France to Belarus Didier Canesse said at the ceremony on the occasion of the national holiday - Bastille Day on 12 July, BelTA has learned.

“As evidenced by the growing political dialogue, Belarus is a partner whose independence and sovereignty we support and with whom we want to strengthen cooperation, especially in matters relating to European stability,” the Ambassador said.

According to him, France hopes that this positive momentum in bilateral relations will continue, including in the bilateral economic relations.

The Ambassador highlighted the dynamic development of cultural relations and cooperation in education last year: “They cement our relations and unite us. Our peoples share European culture and many pages of history.”

Speaking of history, Ambassador Didier Canesse touched on the fate of the children of France in Belarus, those who were born in France during the period between the wars in the families of expatriates. At the end of the 1940s, their parents decided to return to their native land, to the Soviet Union. The Ambassador said that director Vladimir Bokun made a documentary Janine. In addition, a book with the recollections of the returnees and their children will see the light of day soon. The foreword to the book has been written by Nicolas Werth, a French historian specializing in the Soviet Union.
