MINSK, 30 June (BelTA) - Egypt serves as Belarus' strategic gateway to Africa and the Middle East, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to Egypt Yevgeny Sobolevsky told the media, BelTA has learned.
“Egypt is of great interest for us both as a large market and as a key gateway to Africa and the Middle East,” the ambassador noted. “Belarus and Egypt enjoy long-standing friendly relations supported by dialogue at the highest and high levels.”
Interparliamentary cooperation, humanitarian contacts, and cooperation between relevant agencies are actively developing between the countries, the legal framework continues to improve.
“It is important to convert the existing institutional ties into further strengthening of mutually beneficial cooperation. Trade alone is not enough to move forward to promote bilateral relations. We need to develop the most effective and advanced forms of trade and economic interaction. Our manufacturers interested in the Egyptian market understand this,” the diplomat emphasized.
The Belarusian side is keen to intensify efforts to establish and resume assembly operations for its machinery in Egypt. “The goal is to implement the most profitable industrial cooperation models and scale them up to other promising product groups, primarily in agricultural, automotive, and other types of machinery,” Ambassador Yevgeny Sobolevsky explained.
