MINSK, 5 October (BelTA) - Belarus holds a special place in Uzbekistan's relations with countries around the world, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Uzbekistan to Belarus Rakhmatulla Nazarov said at a ceremony marking the 34th anniversary of the country’s independence, BelTA has learned.
“Despite the geographical distance, cooperation between our states is developing dynamically. The peoples of our two friendly nations are very close and have much in common, rooted in our shared history,” the diplomat stated. “Thanks to the close, trusting relationship between our leaders, we have achieved a high level of interaction.”
“A particularly significant event this year was the participation of the president of Uzbekistan in the EAEU summit in Minsk at the invitation of Belarusian leader Aleksandr Lukashenko,” Rakhmatulla Nazarov said. “In April, a delegation of Belarus, headed by Chairwoman of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly Natalya Kochanova, took part in the historic 150th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union in Tashkent, which was organized in Central Asia on the initiative of Uzbekistan's leader for the first time. Another key event was the working meeting between the prime ministers of Belarus and Uzbekistan on the sidelines of the International Environmental Conference in the Altai Krai, as well as the recent participation of the head of government of Uzbekistan in the meeting of the CIS Heads of Government Council and the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council.”
The diplomat emphasized that the development of political dialogue, economic diplomacy, as well as cultural, humanitarian, and interregional cooperation were all discussed during the working visit of Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Maxim Ryzhenkov to Uzbekistan this June.
Rakhmatulla Nazarov also highlighted the importance of the recent visit to the city of Vitebsk by a delegation led by Tanzila Narbayeva, Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan, which included representatives from Uzbek government, public, and business circles. During the visit, and with the support of Belarusian partners, several events were held, including the 3rd Belarus-Uzbekistan Women's Business Forum, a regular meeting of the Uzbekistan-Belarus Business Council, and the first-ever meeting of a bilateral interparliamentary cooperation commission. He noted that these events serve as a vivid testament to the high level and multifaceted nature of the bilateral relations.
An equally intensive exchange of visits is taking place at the level of ministries, agencies, and regional administrations. Business delegations are actively participating in specialized exhibitions and forums in both countries.
“Undoubtedly, as the heads of our states have noted, trade and economic ties are the foundation for the further successful development of Uzbekistan and Belarus today,” the ambassador of Uzbekistan to Belarus said. “Therefore, based on the set objectives, we intend to elevate our bilateral relations to the level of a strategic partnership and deepen effective collaboration within international and regional structures. In this regard, I would like to sincerely thank our Belarusian friends and partners for their continued support and assistance in achieving our goals.”
Belarusian Deputy Prime Minister Yuri Shuleiko noted that Belarus and Uzbekistan are bound by strong ties of friendship, and thanks to the efforts of the two countries' presidents, cooperation has reached a high level in almost all areas. He highlighted the positive dynamics in mutual trade and the effective work of the intergovernmental commission.
