MINSK, 12 February (BelTA) - Iran-Belarus relations have been vibrantly developing, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the Republic of Belarus Alireza Sanei said at a solemn event held on 11 February to mark National Day of the Islamic Republic of Iran - the 46th anniversary of the victory of the Islamic Revolution, BelTA has learned.

The diplomat drew attention to the development of political cooperation, as well as interaction in various sectors, including within the framework of international organizations.

He especially emphasized the importance of the meeting of newly-elected Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian with Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko on the sidelines of the BRICS summit in Kazan in October 2024. In addition, the diplomat drew attention to the meetings between the vice president of Iran and the prime minister of Belarus, reciprocal visits of high-ranking officials, the visit of the secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council to Belarus, the holding of the 7th round of political consultations at the level of deputy foreign ministers, the first round of treaty and legal inter-ministerial consultations, the participation of Iranian observers in the presidential election of Belarus. According to the ambassador, all this testifies to the fruitful dialog between the two countries.

“Undoubtedly, both the common vision of the leaders of the two countries on regional and international events and the state of affairs in the international system are the key factors influencing the development of Iran-Belarus relations,” he said.

The diplomat also emphasized: “The economic ties between Iran and Belarus are developing and expanding through the exchange of private and public sector trade and economic delegations, signing of bilateral agreements, and participation in joint exhibitions. In 2024 trade increased by 25% year-on-year.”

“In January, Minsk hosted the 17th meeting of the Belarusian-Iranian Commission on Economic Cooperation, which became a driver for further development of the relationship. Undoubtedly, the huge economic potential of the two countries together with Iran's membership in the SCO and BRICS, Belarus' participation in BRICS as a partner and membership in the SCO and EAEU, as well as Iran's status as an observer state in the EAEU open new opportunities for deepening economic ties,” the head of the Iranian diplomatic mission said.
