Aleinik: The world needs a new security architecture

MINSK, 11 June (BelTA) – The world needs a new security architecture at the regional and global levels, Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergei Aleinik said at an expanded-participation session of the BRICS Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Russia’s Nizhny Novgorod on 11 June, BelTA has learned.

According to Sergei Aleinik, the efforts of individual countries to maintain their dominance have completely unbalanced the international security system; the Ukraine crisis and the Palestinian-Israeli conflict are sending shockwaves throughout the world and may reach the point of no return.

“In this regard, there is an urgent need for a new architecture at the regional and global levels. This should be an inclusive system that will benefit all states striving for security and prosperity. A system that can become a model for building global security on the principles of indivisibility, multipolarity, mutual respect, equality of sovereign states, the supremacy of international law,” the foreign minister said.

The BRICS countries, which have enormous technological, financial, human and natural resources, can make a significant contribution to building a safer and more prosperous world, the Belarusian diplomat is convinced. “We are ready to contribute to the common efforts,” emphasized Sergei Aleinik.
