Aleinik, Lavrov meet in St Petersburg, review Belarus-Russia cooperation

SAINT PETERSBURG, 30 January (BelTA) – Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus Sergei Aleinik met with his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov on the sidelines of the Union State Supreme State Council summit in Saint Petersburg on 29 January, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The diplomats discussed foreign policy cooperation and the foreign policy coordination program in 2024-2026.


“The parties discussed integration matters and emphasized significant progress to intensify Belarus-Russia interaction in the Union State format in 2022-2023,” the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs informed.

Sergei Aleinik and Sergey Lavrov welcomed the consistent buildup of inter-regional contacts, the expansion and diversification of bilateral cooperation.

“In the run-up to the upcoming 80th anniversary of Belarus’ liberation from fascist invaders and the 80th anniversary of the complete lifting of the fascist siege of Leningrad, the foreign ministers emphasized the unwavering commitment of Belarus and Russia to preserving historical truth and preventing falsification and rewriting of the events of the Great Patriotic War. The parties discussed joint initiatives related to these anniversaries, including at multilateral platforms,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs remarked.

The diplomats reviewed interaction within the SCO and BRICS, as well as joint projects in international organizations. They confirmed their commitment to aligning their positions and providing support to each other.
