MINSK, 13 November (BelTA) – Belarus and Russia have built a solid foundation for fraternal cooperation, Chairman of the Standing Commission on International Affairs and National Security of the Council of the Republic Sergei Aleinik said at a joint meeting of the foreign affairs commissions of the upper houses of the Parliaments of Belarus and Russia in Minsk on 13 November, BelTA has learned.
“I would like to acknowledge the incredibly high level of bilateral relations that have developed over the past 30 years since gaining independence. This year we have a special date to mark: the 25th anniversary of the Union State Treaty. And, of course, many events related to this historical anniversary are of great importance. Minsk has recently hosted a meeting of the Union State Council of Ministers. A joint board of the foreign ministries of our countries has plans to convene next week. A meeting of the Supreme State Council of the Union State will take place in early December,” the parliamentarian noted.
The Union State agenda has always been the focus of attention of both parliaments and specialized commissions, Sergei Aleinik emphasized. “The Union State has a truly multi-tier agenda and, of course, our leaders set the tone and build a solid foundation for our brotherly cooperation. We, parliamentarians, deepen it using our platforms, with an emphasis on inter-regional cooperation. Inter-regional contacts hold a special place in our agendas,” Sergei Aleinik added.
