MINSK, 24 June (BelTA) -  Belarus has always been there for Russia, both in sorrow and in joy, Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergei Aleinik said during the talks with his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov in Minsk on 24 June, BelTA has learned.

Before starting the talks, Sergei Aleinik expressed words of support to Russian partners in connection with the events in Sevastopol and Dagestan. "First of all, allow me to express my sincere condolences on behalf of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs over numerous victims as a result of the attack on Sevastopol and the terrorist act in Dagestan. You know that we  have always been there for you, in sorrow and in joy," he said.

As for the visit of Sergey Lavrov to Minsk, according to the minister, the agenda is influenced by the extremely difficult situation in the world. In the light of the growing geopolitical confrontation, Belarus and Russia have adjusted their political and economic priorities. Thus, the countries have stepped up joint active work in the SCO and BRICS.

It was decided to pay special attention to the cooperation with the countries of the Global South. Belarus and Russia began to coordinate their steps in this direction as well. The countries maintain high dynamics of cooperation in terms of the regions and traditional integration organizations: the CIS, the EAEU, the CSTO.

"Belarus has consistently pursued the policy toward strengthening of Belarusian-Russian cooperation," Sergei Aleinik stressed.
