21 roadmaps on tighter Belarus-Russia integration reconciled

MOSCOW, 20 November (BelTA) – The Belarusian side and the Russian one have fully reconciled 21 out of 31 roadmaps designed to enable tighter integration between the two countries, BelTA learned from Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to Russia Vladimir Semashko during the expert and media forum The Union State 2030 – Trajectory of the Future in Moscow on 20 November.

According to Vladimir Semashko, as many as 16 roadmaps were reconciled and initialed as of the morning on 19 November or before the prime ministers of Belarus and Russia started their lengthy negotiations. “A consensus on five other roadmaps was reached yesterday during, I believe, productive meetings of the prime ministers. Ways forward were found and ministers were instructed to prepare these reconciled roadmaps by the end of the week. So five more roadmaps have been added,” the ambassador said.

Vladimir Semashko went on saying that serious matters concerning primarily the energy industry, access to mutual markets, customs and tax regulations have yet to be addressed. “I believe these are fundamental matters of primary importance. I think solutions will be found in the end,” he stressed. The ambassador reminded that Belarusian-Russian relations had periods of hot debates about various problems in the past. “Such events have already happened but common sense prevailed in the end and we can always find ways forward. I think we will find ways forward this time as well. It will shape our joint Union State for the next few decades,” the diplomat concluded.

BelTA reported earlier that in early September the prime ministers of Belarus and Russia agreed a draft action program to implement the Union State Foundation Treaty and a list of roadmaps. The sides now have to work out 31 roadmaps to implement the action program. The Belarusian and Russian governments intend to present the draft roadmaps for the attention of the presidents by 1 December. The roadmaps will be signed by heads of government agencies while the action program on fulfilling the Union State Foundation Treaty will be signed by the heads of state. The roadmaps address such matters are the creation of a common market of natural gas, a common market of oil, common transport markets, the pursuance of a unified policy in the manufacturing sector, agriculture, and so on.

The expert and media forum The Union State 2030 – Trajectory of the Future is scheduled to take place in Moscow on 20-21 December. It has been organized by the Standing Committee of the Union State of Belarus and Russia. The event gathered experts, political analysts, sociologists, heads of mass media, scientists, representatives of technology parks and R&D institutes, representatives of youth public and scientific organizations from Belarus and Russia. The first day of the forum is dedicated to potential models of development of the Union State of Belarus and Russia and integration strategies in the sphere of information. The second day will feature panel sessions on innovative technologies for accomplishing Union State goals and the participation of young people in humanitarian cooperation. Apart from that, a special session timed to the 75th anniversary of the victory in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945 will be held.
