Buinichi Field was one of them. In early July 1941, Soviet soldiers, police officers and people's militia held the defense of Mogilev for 23 days. Buinichi Field witnessed the fiercest battles: here the infantry of the 88th Infantry Regiment under the command of Colonel S. Kutepov and firing crews of the 340th Artillery Regiment of Colonel I. Mazalov confronted the tank forces of the Nazi invaders. Russian writer and war correspondent Konstantin Simonov was a witness of those events.
