Masaya Volcano, one of the most easily accessible active volcanoes in the world, is located in the Masaya Volcano National Park, 20km from the city of Managua. The volcano is still active, with its last eruption observed in 2008. The Spanish conquerors baptized the volcano La Boca del Infierno” or “The Mouth of Hell”. They planted a cross on the crater lip in the 16th century in order to exorcise the Devil.
