Orthodox believers celebrate the appearance of the Zhirovichi Icon of the Mother of God, one of the most revered icons in Belarus. This year the Holy Dormition Zhirovichi Monastery, one of the main spiritual centers of Belarusian Orthodoxy, celebrates its 505th anniversary. The history of the spiritual center began with the miraculous appearance of the Icon of the Mother of God. A legend has it that this happened in 1470.On May 20 from early morning the churches of the monastery held divine liturgy and a procession with the miracle-working icon from the Dormition Cathedral to the Yavlenskaya (Theophany) Church.
