
MOSCOW, 26 April (BelTA - TV BRICS) - Russia has expanded its
international municipal cooperation with BRICS countries, marking a 38
per cent increase in partnership agreements in 2024 compared to the
previous year.
The figures were shared by Dmitry Volvach, Deputy Minister of Economic Development of the Russian Federation, as reported by the official website of the Russian Ministry of Economic Development.
Volvach emphasised that strengthening external economic ties at the municipal level is critical for unlocking the full economic, social and cultural potential of Russian regions. He noted that effective collaboration between municipalities across BRICS member states supports mutual understanding, resilience, and inclusive growth, particularly in the face of global challenges.
According to the Ministry, over 400 international and external economic cooperation events were held at the municipal level in 2024, with more than half conducted in collaboration with BRICS partners.
He also underscored the proactive role of BRICS countries in advancing international municipal dialogue. Russian cities and municipalities are working closely with their BRICS partners through various platforms, including the "Russia–Islamic World: KazanForum".

Volvach also highlighted growing legal and
regulatory cooperation among municipal authorities. To date, Russian
municipalities have signed over 100 formal cooperation agreements with
BRICS counterparts, with the majority concluded with municipalities in
China, South Africa, and Brazil.
