Liwa Cycling Challenge records huge turnout

ABU DHABI, 12 January (BelTA - Emirates News Agensy). - The Abu Dhabi Cycling Club (ADCC) organised the ENEC Liwa Cycling Challenge in the Al Dhafra region, in cooperation with the Abu Dhabi Sports Council, and sponsored by the Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation (ENEC), the Club's partner in the Al Dhafra region.

The event witnessed a huge turnout of participants of different technical and physical levels. The Liwa intermediate course is just 70km in distance with the long course measuring approximately 95km.

The race, which started in front of the Liwa Hotel and lasted about three hours, was dominated by an exciting competition between the riders along routes across Liwa and its farms.

This event is in line with the ADCC's keenness to hold various races and events that contribute to enhancing Abu Dhabi's position on the map of international sports in general and cycling in particular, in light of the selection of Abu Dhabi as the first city in Asia to receive the prestigious Union Cycliste Internationale Bike City label.

The event was held in a safe and comfortable atmosphere for the participants, as Abu Dhabi is famous for having state-of-the-art facilities for holding events and bike races from tracks and routes, thanks to the great efforts exerted by government agencies to the infrastructure in the emirate, which made it a global centre that attracts cycling professionals and amateurs alike.

At the end of the race, Mohamed Ibrahim Al Hammadi, ENEC's Managing Director and CEO, honoured the winners who participated in the race.

The ADCC thanked Abu Dhabi Police General Headquarters, Al Dhafra Region Municipality, Integrated Transport Center - Abu Dhabi (ITC), Abu Dhabi Waste Management Center (Tadweer), marshals, and the Liwa Festival Management, for their efforts in making this event a success.
