Indonesia's Mount Sinabung erupts 4 times on Tuesday

JAKARTA, 27 April (BelTA - Xinhua) - Indonesia's volcano Sinabung in North Sumatra erupted four times, throwing thick ash up to 1,000 meters above its peak to the south and southwest, the Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation Center (PVMBG) said on Tuesday.

PVMBG officer Moh Nurul Asrori said the first eruption occurred at 6:06 a.m. local time for 224 seconds with a burst of ash up to 1,000 meters above its peak while the next blast was at 8:10 a.m. local time as high as 500 meters above the peak.

"The third eruption occurred at 8:12 a.m. for 224 seconds and a fourth eruption at 10:23 a.m. for 171 seconds with each column of ash up 1,000 meters from the top of the summit," said Asrori.

PVMBG warns people not to carry out activities within a dangerous radius of three km from the peak and keep away from rivers that flow up to Sinabung.

PVMBG also asked people to wear masks in the rain of volcanic ash which damages health.
