ABU DHABI, 30 July (BelTA - Emirates News Agency) - The 20th Liwa Date
Festival, which took place in Liwa city, Al Dhafra Region, from 15th to
28th July 2024, has welcomed 116,513 visitors and participation of 570
farmers in 23 competitions.
Organised by Abu Dhabi Heritage Authority in a strategic partnership with ADNOC, the annual Liwa Date Festival emphasises the cultural importance of date farming in the Al Dhafra region, offering visitors a deep dive into the rich traditions and customs of the UAE. The event brings together people who grow, sell, market or specialise in dates — such as farmers, investors and germination specialists.
During the 14-day event, farmers competed in 23 competitions with cash prizes worth AED 8.3 million.
The most important events at the festival were the date competitions with the main ones being the award for the “Best Date Fruit”, the “Heaviest Date Branch” and the “Best Date Basket Display’’.
The event also featured date and fruit mazayna and model farm competitions, handcrafts, and a children’s village.
