Mount Kailash, also known as Mount Gang Rinpoche, in southwest China is one of the most mysterious and mystical places on the planet.
Many mountaineers have tried to reach the summit but so far no group has succeeded. The height of the mountain is still a controversial issue. Monks claim that Kailash is 6666m above sea level (the famous combination of four sixes). Scientists assert that the height ranges from 6668m to 6714m. Its exact height has not yet been established since the mountain "breathes": every year it changes its height by several tens of meters. Mount Kailash is a traditional place of pilgrimage.
