Lake Baikal is the largest freshwater lake of tectonic origin on Earth. It is located on the eastern outskirts of Siberia, in Irkutsk Oblast and Buryatia of Russia. Lake Baikal is estimated to be around 25-30 million years old. It holds the title of the deepest lake on Earth, reaching a maximum depth of 1,642 meters.
