MINSK, 5 January (BelTA) – Belarus’ new Economy Minister Yuri Chebotar has outlined priority tasks for the ministry, BelTA has learned.

Yuri Chebotar noted that the work of the entire staff of the Economy Ministry will be scrutinized. “We need to be more pro-active as we set tasks for various sectors. The ministry is unique, with its own traditions. I am aware of the bottlenecks; I know where we should take it up a notch. The main thing is to increase the efficiency and quality of our work. And there is a lot of work to do. I am convinced that we will succeed in all our undertakings,” he said.

According to him, the head of state named the key tasks for the Economy Ministry. “They are clear to us. We will work on them. Firstly, we need to complete the current five-year plan. This plan sets out our goals, objectives, and priorities. The key thing is the growth of household income and improvement of the living standards. In this regard, we are proceeding in line with the five-year plan. Secondly, we need to achieve socio-economic development targets. This includes the provision of housing, as well as social infrastructure development, etc.,” the minister said.

“Today, the ministry is drafting a national sustainable development strategy until 2040. We have defined its concept, and in the near future we will submit it for public discussion. And then we will smoothly move on to developing a socio-economic development program for the next five years. Our priorities are investments, the development of the real sector of the economy and improvement of its competitiveness,” said Yuri Chebotar.

“Investments were growing by more than 20% every month in the second half of 2023. I am confident that such dynamics will remain in place in the coming years,” the economy minister emphasized.
