Winter planting in Belarus 58.4% complete

MINSK, 29 September (BelTA) - Winter crops in Belarus have been sown on 849,600 hectares, which is 58.4% of the target area (1,456,100 hectares), BelTA learned from the Belarusian Agriculture and Food Ministry.

Over half of the areas under winter crops are ready in Brest Oblast, Vitebsk Oblast, Grodno Oblast, Minsk Oblast and Mogilev Oblast. Almost half of the areas in Gomel Oblast (48.2%) has been sown.

Grain and leguminous crops (including corn) have been harvested from 2.111 million hectares (89.5% of the target area). Some 6.439 million tonnes of grain has been threshed. Minsk Oblast is leading with more than 1.6 million tonnes threshed. It is followed by Brest Oblast - more than 1.2 million tonnes, Grodno Oblast - more than 1.1 million tonnes, Mogilev Oblast - 856,400 tonnes, Gomel Oblast – 808,600 tonnes, Vitebsk Oblast – 783,400 tonnes.
