Ways to export more Belarusian electricity to EAEU under consideration

MINSK, 2 April (BelTA) – The Belarusian Energy Ministry is looking into possibilities for exporting more Belarusian electricity to the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU). Belarusian Deputy Energy Minister Vadim Zakrevsky made the relevant statement in the parliament on 2 April, BelTA has learned.

The official presented a bill on ratifying the protocol on amending the part of the Eurasian Economic Union Treaty that regulates the establishment of the common electricity market.

The official said: “As we evaluate opportunities for participation in the common market, we already see that the electricity our enterprises generate is competitive. The Energy Ministry is evaluating the possibility of exporting more electricity to the Eurasian Economic Union in the future.”

The protocol Belarusian MPs ratified on 2 April stipulates procedures for mutual trade in electricity and stages of development of the common electricity market. “These stages correspond to Belarus' special view on the concept for forming the union's common electricity market. This approach will allow the countries to enjoy access to natural gas on equal conditions, which is an important factor for Belarus to make competitive offers on the common electricity market and the domestic one,” the deputy energy minister stressed.
